I’m bored! Where do I look to see what’s going on in the city?

I’m trying to find fun things to do in Ottawa that are not too pricey and are fun. I like to look for deals or coupons for dates, but when I do a search on Google, they come up with thousands of pages. Then, you have to go to each one because there isn’t one site that contains everything. I wish there was a site that contained ALL the deals and maybe it could be a mobile app? Hint hint for those that like to create apps. I would use this app for sure…if someone created it.bored

I remember there was a website for online coupons that compiled all the deals online into one location.  I can’t remember what it’s called. If you know of it, please share.

I like to try different things to learn, but with so many places to look, I forget where I found the deal or what the place was called. Then I have to go and start my search all over, until now. I am going to use this page to continuously update where I find things. No more trying to find things all over. It will be one click away.

Here you go. Hope it helps you as well.

Updated – I have 136 things on my bucket list, do you?

UPDATED: August 13, 2017.

Also, this is NOT for children!

Do you remember the GREAT movie the Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman? I do and it gave me a kick in the pants to make changes.

Is there a list of things you’ve been wanting to do, but never really wrote them down and forgot about them. Then, all of a sudden you ran into someone who talked about a painting class they took and how much fun it was, or maybe you ran into a fun party friend who told you she (you know who you are…lol) she makes homemade wine, and you suddenly remembered these were things you wanted to do. Well, why aren’t you doing them? For me, it was because I put the list aside and forgot about them, but I am reading a book from Jack Canfield called The Success Principles – How to get from where you are to where you want to be. One of the exercises in the book is to write out 101 lists of things you want to do before you die. Well, I went to town on this list, but at one point I couldn’t get past 30. I won’t tell you how to do it. You can get that from the book as it’s really a good book and, you can get it for free from the public library. Ya, they still exist and…FREE books. The best part I like about the library is it forces me to read the book from start to finish in 3 weeks or else if I don’t bring it back in time, I pay a fine PER DAY! No thanks.

Here’s my list and there are now 136 I think and counting.

3 Things you need to write a blog for your business

I found a great image from furman.edu that asked Do you love or do you hate writing.

Do You Love or Hate Writing?
Do You Love or Hate Writing?

Are you considering starting a business, or maybe you already have one, but you’re finding the writing hard. Well, it’s not hard at all, but it’s a bit of work. You need to have a plan and I’m going to show you 3 things I did to help me come up with my blog articles.

This is how some of you probably feel. Maybe you’ve been told you don’t write well. Were you an average writer in school? Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to listen to those people because….they are not who you are writing for. You are a writer. You’re just not an academic writer and sorry, who wants to be one of them. Not me. Sorry if I offended anyone, but theory for me is soooooo dry.

Here’s what I’ve learned from my mentors to help me come up with ideas for writing.

DYI – Saved $100 on my hair colouring at the salon

OK, so I’m a bit frugal because…well, I don’t like to pay a lot for someone to cut my hair or colour it. I know it costs money to rent the space, the products, the furniture, but I don’t believe it should cost $110 to get a cut and colour, which was bad hair diemy experience last summer. I told myself that I would never pay that again because I hated the cut and style. Others liked it, but I didn’t and went back to have him fix it so that I looked like me.

The hard part of dying the hair was making sure I didn’t get it all over my skin and the floor. As you can see here, that didn’t exactly work out as planned. To top it off, when the man got home he saw the stains on the floor before he saw my hair color. So, he was a bit sad, but no biggy. I found a great product that takes the stains out.

wl Syndrome (IBS).  What that means is if I eat something that doesn’t agree with my stomach…I can

make people leave a room…he he. Because when I fart…yes I said fart…it stinks so bad. Sorry to all those who have had to experience this, but thanks for sticking aroun

d and still wanting to be in my life:)…lol

While I’m playing with new recipes, I buy lots of different fruits and veggies. However, sometimes I don’t feel like cooking and well, they don’t last and my food goes bad. This doesn’t help me with saving money, but I found something that states it will keep my food fresher longer.

It’s called Stay Fresh.

Stay fresh bagsI bought it at Giant Tiger for $1.99. I bought it a month ago, but now is the time to see if it works.  I am going to test the bags with herbs and veggies that I am buying this week and will take photos of them when i start.

I also found an article from CTV that talks about green bags. Check it out.

If you’ve tried the bags, please let me now in the comments below how it worked out and what did you do to ensure they stayed fresh.

Here’s to saving money and…having fun.

My writing has hit a BRICK wall

This image belongs to pokerground.com

Have you ever thought you wanted something so bad only to realise you didn’t want to do it anymore? Well, that’s me right now with my book. I have been writing for over a year now and love writing my stories, but when I started taking the training on how to write my book, it started out great. I was learning how to formulate it, coming up with topic sections because I was struggling with it, but then it got into how to promote your book. I wasn’t ready for that. I wanted to be sure I was on the right path. I was assuming they were going to review and provide feedback on a chapter, but they continued on the following week and it was about revising the stories and sending them out for review to 5 different people for each chapter, oh and it needs to be done in 90 days. WOW, I started to panic and then lost my MOJO interest for writing the book. I hit a wall!  Everything I was working towards, all of a sudden was stopped. My fitness plan for walking/running or working out – STOPPED! My making dates with my man…STOPPED. Spending time with my friends – STOPPED! Cleaning up my office..STOPPED! I was feeling overwhelmed. All because the book was no longer fun and had too many tight deadlines. I was no longer enjoying my writing, which was what the point of writing, to enjoy and tell stories.

I convinced my man to take a vacation south while I was taking this book writing training. I just needed to get away and he found us an amazing deal to St.Lucia. So, we got the time off and off we went. I was so relaxed and had so much fun. We saw a volcano, went on a catamaran, did snorkeling and so many more things. Then, it came time to come back home, and I was feeling anxious again. It’s like I never went on that trip. I wanted that fun feeling back, but I knew I had to get back to preparing for my workshops and finish revising and promoting my book.  I met with my awesome friend and energy coach Christine, and she gave me some good advice. She suggested that maybe I should book the book idea on hold for now, and write blogs instead of focussing so much on my stories being a book. She asked if I liked writing and I do, and I also enjoy motivating people, which was why I wanted to write the book. So, that I would have a tool to use when I speak at events. She suggested that I continue writing my stories, but with the lessons or action plan on my blog. Wow, that just made all the anxious feeling go away.  She said one word that stood out. RESET! That’s it. I needed to reset, not start over, but change directions as to what I really wanted.

www.realdigitalproductions.com
www.realdigitalproductions.com

I just remembered my counselor saying…”don’t worry about the book, it will happen. Just keep writing”.  I did it again, I want the project to be done, so I start to rush through things, but when it gets to the part where I have to verify, I get antsy and just don’t want to do it, so I procrastinate on everything else. I want to move on to the next project, instead of just enjoying the process of writing. The book will get published when it’s time and not before. My life journey is unfolding and the book is just that…my journey.

What’s the message in hear for you?

If you have a project you’re working on and no longer enjoying it, like writing a book, doing your taxes, researching information for your website, or maybe sewing a dress for a client, take a break from it. Just give it a few days rest, or however long you need, but not too long, or it will be hard to come back. During that time, go and do something fun for yourself. NO ONE ELSE. Just you. Your head and heart might be telling you “we need fun”. If it’s something you have to do for a client i.e. they are paying for it, you have 3 choices: 1) contact them client to ask for an extension, 2) set time aside to get it done so you can get paid, or 3) hire someone else with the necessary skills and have them do it. It doesn’t always have to be you doing the work. After the project is complete, ask yourself if it’s something you enjoy doing. If it’s not, you should not advertise these services or if you do, sub-contract them out.

My weakness is revising things. I love creating instructional guides to use for teaching, but I hate having to revise them to make sure of spelling and the flow. It takes away from my creativity. So, I hire or barter out this part of my work. This way, I am still productive, but it’s not draining on me.

What ways do you use to move your project forward, or are what fun thing are you going to do to take care of yourself? Please write your comments so we can all help one another.

How to get stuff done when you have too many things to do

How to get stuff done when you have too many things to do

Are you feeling that you have so much to do, but not enough time? You have a full-time job and you are trying to run a part-time business. Maybe you have a family and you need to help with homework, or you have to get dinner ready. And let’s not forget house cleaning, and getting groceries. YOU JUST CAN’T DO IT ALL! Or can you? If you can, you are SUPERWOMAN and I bow to you. But for those who are like me and can’t, here’s my suggestion to help you get through it.

STOP! Take a breath. Breathe in and out sloooooowly. I know you feel like you don’t have time to slow down, but ask yourself this “do I feel like I’m getting things done or just too tired to do anything?”  So again, I am asking you to Breath in deep and breath out sloooooowly. turtleDo like the turtle at my cottage does..walks like no one is in a hurray. So, you have to go around him, but I stop and smile at him because it’s a reminder to me too. Now, we can talk.

I’m overwhelmed with everything I have to do

pexels-photoCan you relate to how I’m feeling?  I’m trying to grow my business, but I’m working full-time and then when I do have some free time, I’m told I need to write an article or a blog and post it on my website and tell EVERYONE I know, then go out and network with people but what happens if you don’t these types of events i.e. dancing or just talking to strangers, and when I do meet people I have to try and get them to become clients. Don’t forget when you get home, make dinner, clean the house, take care of the dog, the kids and the man! Arrrg:( I feel exhausted just thinking about this. What happens for me when I feel like this I get paralyzed and don’t want to do anything. Do you get that way too?  Well don’t worry, I have found a solution and I’m going to share it with you.

Step 1 – chunk it down.

I met with my Coach Christine and I gave her a list of things we need to do to grow my business and she said “it’s A LOT!” I knew that to mean, she won’t do all of it.lol So, I asked her to give me some suggestions to how I can make it more manageable and she broke the tasks into manageable chunks. So, instead of having a list of 42 things to do, I now have 5 things to do to grow my business. For example:

  1. The Plan
    • Write a 1 page business plan (goals) to identify why you want to run your own business. what does it look like (vision board) and how will you keep with your goals on those tough days (affirmations), etc.
  2. Action Steps to get growing
    • create 5 pages for my new website, find fun images to add to it, brainstorm ideas of things I can write about, etc.
  3. Spread the word
    • create an elevator pitch to use when meeting new people (networking and having fun)
  4. Check in
    • schedule each of these tasks, but also check after each month what happened i.e. did i get more prospects, what event had more of my ideal clients or people who could refer them to me, check my 1 page business plan to see if i’m on target and if not what do I need to do to get back there i.e. remember why I’m running a business (vision board).

Home…not so sweet home

Here’s my suggestions to help with the house chores and finding ways to reduce time and money.

Cleaning

  • let your partner and kids know that you’re feeling overwhelmed and ask if they could help with the chores. I’m amazed when I ask nicely how he does things for me, even at times without asking.
  • or do what I do and call a cleaning to come and clean at least once a month. I am SUPER happy when she does and….my man gets more loving wife because of it.

Meal preppingfood-salad-restaurant-person

  • this could be fun, but also time consuming. I look on Pinterest to find 7 day meal plans, then I prep at least 3 breakfasts & lunches and snacks and dinner we do each night because we like to eat  fresh, actually he likes it more fresh than me, but he does the BBQ, so I don’t say anything:)

For me, chunking things down and asking for help has been a huge relief because I can now feel more relaxed and  I have to remind myself that I don’t have to do it all, and it doesn’t have to get done right now.

Let me know what happens, and if you have other ideas please share. The more ideas we have, the more we can help each other eliminate or reduce the overwhelm.

Do you have a list of things you want to do before you die?

I’ve been reading Jack Canfield’s book The Success PrinciplesHow to get from where you are to where you want to be. One of the activities he ask you to do is to write out a list of 101  goals you want to accomplish before you die. At first I thought it was fun because I love writing lists, but then I got stumped. I think I got to 53 and then nothing. No more fun ideas came. So, I put it asside and asked my mastermind group, which is only 1 person and myself, what he put on his list. This helped get the juices flowing again and I managed to come up with 123.

Here’s what I plan do to before I die. Now, I need to warn you because there’s one on the list that I had to remove because it’s rated R for adults.

  15. Travel to Italy, ride the gondola and eat real pizza

Before and after of a cluttered office and mind

2 weeks ago I set out to make some changes, one in particular was to change my office set up because it was getting crowded and ugly. This is what it looked liked:

office before

And this is what it looks like now. I feel like I can work alllll night. Actually, that’s not true. I’m tired today, but will be sure to keep it clean.

office after

So, what did I do to get it looking organized? I did 1 thing at a time and I didn’t try to do it all in one day. It took me a few weeks and it was ugly in my office. Gotta love a patient hubby. Thanks honey:)

  1. move the bookshelf
  2. take the books off the bookshelf before moving it…he he
  3. put books in a box if i’m not going to read them for the next 6 months.
  4. go through the files on my desk and look at 10 papers or 1 folder ONLY
  5. organize the tasks in folders for each month and do only those things. So, right now May is fun things and reading about marketing and website design, which you might notice I keep changing, but that’s what this website is all about…having fun and trying things.

Here’s to hoping your projects turn out.
