What I am meant to be doing with my life?

Are you feeling blah and not sure why or what to do?

For the past month, I have been feeling blah. I thought maybe I was feeling this way because I was exhausted and winter was here, which I am not a fan of. We went on a beautiful trip in February to Antigua. It was beautiful and relaxing, but when I came back I went right back to feeling blah. I thought it was because I didn’t like the way I looked, so I got a haircut, which did help😊 (this is not my new hair, but rather how I feel)

However, when I wake up to go to work that’s when I feel it the most. I feel a heavy heart. I’m angry and frustrated because I have not found work that makes me happy that I can do it daily.  Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for having a job, but that’s just it…A JOB. I feel like I am meant to be doing something else, but what else that is I don’t know.

I was given many opportunities to try new positions with government department. I was a Wellness coordinator and I liked it, minus a few events that made me feel nauseous, but it wasn’t permanent, and I was looking for better pay and working in a team. The one thing I didn’t like was working alone. While I dealt with people, I worked alone. I had no one to go for coffee with, to brainstorm ideas off of, except for the DG, which is not what I wanted to do. I truly believed in the workshops and I loved being at these events because I could see how it helped, but it wasn’t permanent.

Then there was the Awards Coordinator, which was a good position too, and very busy, but that one had way too much isolation for me. This job was mostly about contracts and promoting events, which was fun, but it was not for me. The most painful part about that job was writing speeches. I didn’t have the experience they needed and felt so incompetent and some of the people I worked with helped me feel that way too. This was a big part of the job and I didn’t know it would be when I took on the task. Well, I had nightmares about people getting upset with me because the speech was awful. So I told my boss that I no longer wanted the job and wish to go back to my old job because…I hated it. That was not a way I wanted to feel every day, hating to wake up, crying and not feeling supported.

So now I am at a job that is not challenging, and the people that come to see you are stressed because they are doing tests. I coordinate second language testing for employees. I am a positive person and feel it when people are stressed, so this job takes its toll on my health. I was also working in a separate office and that didn’t help with the emotions. I felt isolation. However, we now have everyone back on the team and it’s much better, and I am back in my old office where there are fun people who like their jobs.

So, the question I am asking myself is “what am I meant to be doing with my life?” well, I don’t know the answer yet, but I do know what I DON’T want to be doing which is working in a stressful or negative environment; being in isolation; doing repetitive work where I don’t get to voice my opinion; not working in a team; having no one to work with on a team; working in an area where people don’t support you or help you; working crazy hours; not being able to take a break and have someone watch the hours you work. That one I hate the most! I am not paid by hour, I am paid to get the job done!

So, what’s my next plan of action? I am going to find something else in another government department. I am going to send out my resume as suggested by my awesome friend Carol, to see if I can deploy to another department where they have opportunities and…do things I value like make the world or the city a better place.

If you know of a department that is looking for someone who likes technical, likes to deal with people, likes training and writing instructional guides, can juggle multiple things, and is willing to learn new skills, please pass along their name to me and I will GLADLY contact them. While I am currently a CR-04, I have been acting in many roles as an AS-03.

Now it’s your turn, if you’re feeling blah, look at why and come up with a small step as to what you can do to change it. Maybe you just need a day off to watch TV all day..DO IT! Maybe your body is sore and need to get a massage, but the hours are during work…DO IT! Maybe you’re like me and need a change of career, write down what you don’t like and then what you DO like and look for work that has those components and then, start making 1 call or email a day. Baby steps is for me the only way to go.

If you have other ways to help with the blah’s, please share in the comments below.

Goal #7 Declutter – purging…starting with my closets

February is purging month, OK maybe March too because I have soooo much stuff.  The reason I started this goal was because of the book I’m reading called “The Happiness Project” by Grethchen Rubin. If you haven’t read it, you really need to get it. She’s got some great advice for each month. She talks about each project using herself and her family as the examples. I am loving it. In her book, January is the energy boosting month and one of the ways to do that is to declutter your space. If you want to buy it for cheaper, go to Amazon.ca and buy it used. After all, it’s not something you’re going to treasure forever. So, save your money and get it used.

Do you know what purging means?  For some, it may mean puking up what you just ate, but that’s not what I am talking about. I’m referring to getting rid of things you either no longer use, or are holding on to because it might come back, or because you spent money on it. That’s totally me! Holding on to it because I paid money, but the problem with that is it’s taking up space and making me angry because it’s just sitting there.

Goal #3 – Make $1,000 a month with my business

Goal #3 – Make $1,000 a month with my business

So you might be asking, “Tina, how are you going to make $1,000 a month with a blog”? That’s a very good question.  The truth is I don’t know if I will make $1k a month with my blog, but I am sure going to try because I love writing my stories about my experiments or experiences. Speaking of which, some of you know but for those who don’t I wrote a book in 2014 about renting your cottage out and making a profit. It was a self published and I am super proud of it, thanks to my old friend Katrina Moy who helped me rewrite it over 90 TIMES! Well, it finally paid off. I received a check from Amazon for……$107.00! I couldn’t believe it. I finally got paid for all that effort.

Goal #7 – De-clutter my house – week 1

If you could only see my house right now. It’s a mess! I have clothes sitting on the floor, laundry piled up, dishes that need to get done, and there are files all over my desk, receipts everywhere. I have a Service Ontario bill to pay for my sticker for the car, which I’ve been trying to do all day, but for some reason I can’t get through the website. I think it might be because of Mozilla. Most government departments use Internet Explorer when they create they sites and they don’t test it with other search engines. My goal this year BEFORE August as advised by my friend and Intuitive Numerologist Laura Young said that I need to de-clutter everything in my life from my space, clothes, and relationships. She never mentioned anything about Ma Man…so I think I’ll keep him.lol

OK, so Goal #7 is to de-clutter my house, but that’s a big order. I have sooo MANY things to do. In order for me to not freak out, I am going to start with one pile at at a time, but before I do that I need to write down which rooms I need to work on and what do I need to do.

I tried to add the image, but it wouldn’t work, so I have attached a link to it here.

If you want to learn more about what Laura does, she sends out a monthly newsletter with really great information to help you move forward. If you want to be added to her email, simply email her at Laura Young lbaird@istar.ca. Or if you ready for a reading, email her and if you wouldn’t mind letting her know that you heard about her from me, that would be great. Thanks.

Are they new years resolution or goals?

2017 is fast approaching and I plan to write WAYYYYY more often, but…not post them all. After all, I have to keep you entertained and don’t want you to get sick of me. I have been reading up on how to become a better writer and one of the ways is to…just write. So, that’s what I’m doing, but I want to write about things that interest me like setting goals. Every year I try to set goals that are realistic, but sometimes I mess up, like the one I just tried to do. I set out to not drink alcohol for 7 days. Well, I tried and…lasted 2 days. I like the taste of a good beer. However, I have stopped drinking red wine, which my Man doesn’t believe. He thinks it’s a phase, but I don’t think it is. I actually don’t crave it like I use to when I would start to cook. It’s only been 2 weeks, but still. that’s huge because I would drink a glass or 2 with dinner every other night. So, my new year is off to a good start.

So, this is the time to start setting new goals, but also remembering and celebrating the ones I reached from last year.  Here’s a link to my bucket list of what I said I would do before I die, so in 2016 this is what I actually accomplished.

I decided to set small goals for 2017 and here they are.

1) Convince the man to take another trip south in February
2) Organize more fun with friends
3) have my business make $1,000+ a month
4) go on 1 date a week with my man = 52 dates
5) exercise a minimum of 3 days a week
6) read 1 new book every 2 months (that one might be tough)
6) volunteer for a fun charity that supports local women business or the Boys and Girls Club
7) De-clutter my space i.e. clean up my office files, get rid of clothes and shoes I no longer wear (so, if you want some stuff, text me)
8) decorate my home for under $500, includes a new couch:)
9) Do at least 3 things on my bucket list http://lafemmeottawa.com/i-have-120-things-on-my-bucket-li…/
10) and…love myself no matter what happens this year.

What are your goals for 2017?

Here’s to a wonderful 2017!

Great deals for t-shirts to promote your business or sell them?

I was searching to find deals for business cards other than Vistaprint, even though they have AMAZING deal for $10 you get 500 business cards, when I came across a deal for t-shirts. I was surprised because it brought me to Kijiji and there was NO business cards, but what there was are t-shirts for $6.99!

latest-designs-of-t-shirts-custom-tee-shirts-31106082-400-400

I was thinking of getting shirts made for when I speak at an event and want to have it as a give away. I think they would be great to give away or if people want to buy them as well. This company has many great benefits…

  1. they are local in Ottawa
  2. they offer Free shipping, even in Ottawa
  3. the minimum shirt order is $24 for….$6.99 each, and…they go down more if you buy more
  4. they can help you build a logo or do it for you, but they didn’t say the price

The company is called Ottawa Custome Clothing. Here’s where I found the deal for $6.99 t-shirts on Kijiji. If you do use their service, please write in the comments below what you thought of them and…attach a photo of what you got done.

Updated – I have 136 things on my bucket list, do you?

NOTE: This is just to let you know I’ve updated my bucket list with things I’ve accomplished. I’m back to having some fun:)

Also, this is NOT for children!

the_bucket_list_movie_poster_onesheetDo you remember the GREAT movie the Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman? I do and it gave me a kick in the pants to make changes.

Is there a list of things you’ve been wanting to do, but never really wrote them down and forgot about them. Then, all of a sudden you ran into someone who talked about a painting class they took and how much fun it was, or maybe you ran into a fun party friend who told you she (you know who you are…lol) she makes homemade wine, and you suddenly remembered these were things you wanted to do. Well, why aren’t you doing them? For me, it was because I put the list aside and forgot about them, but I am reading a book from Jack Canfield called The Success Principles – How to get from where you are to where you want to be. One of the exercises in the book is to write out 101 lists of things you want to do before you die. Well, I went to town on this list, but at one point I couldn’t get past 30. I won’t tell you how to do it. You can get that from the book as it’s really a good book and, you can get it for free from the public library. Ya, they still exist and…FREE books. The best part I like about the library is it forces me to read the book from start to finish in 3 weeks or else if I don’t bring it back in time, I pay a fine PER DAY! No thanks.

Here’s my list and there are now 136 I think and counting.

REMEMBER…this is before you die. NOT get it done in a week.

Are you looking for a new career?

Don’t be afraid to close the door!

closing-the-door-2-angeljanesworld

Has this ever happened to you. You’ve been applying for jobs, any jobs in fact. As long as it’s higher than what you are doing right now. Well, that was me. I had been applying to all these AS-02 or As-03 in the government. I got 5 REJECTION letters in 2 months! Not a very good feeling. They said I didn’t meet the requirements and what I said to myself “what the f….are you kidding me!!! I am OVER QUALIFIED!” There were some jobs that I really really wanted, but because I didn’t fill out the details the way they wanted it, I got screened out. I was getting depressed because I KNEW I was skilled and could do any of the jobs I had applied to, but why was it that I was not being considered. So, my ego was taking a beating. I was starting to feel not good enough. I started thinking maybe I should just be grateful for the job I had, which I was, but I knew I was meant to do something more, better and make a difference.

Well, one day I got a call from one of departments that I had applied to over a year ago asking me if I was still interested. Are you kidding? Of course I was still interested, which I told them YES. They had a position working for a top senior person and that I would be one of the assistance, taking care of paper work, travel claims, greeting people as they come to meet my boss. The job didn’t sound too exciting, but it was a permanent and higher then where I was.

3 Things you need to write a blog for your business

I found a great image from furman.edu that asked Do you love or do you hate writing.

Do You Love or Hate Writing?
Do You Love or Hate Writing?

Are you considering starting a business, or maybe you already have one, but you’re finding the writing hard. Well, it’s not hard at all, but it’s a bit of work. You need to have a plan and I’m going to show you 3 things I did to help me come up with my blog articles.

This is how some of you probably feel. Maybe you’ve been told you don’t write well. Were you an average writer in school? Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to listen to those people because….they are not who you are writing for. You are a writer. You’re just not an academic writer and sorry, who wants to be one of them. Not me. Sorry if I offended anyone, but theory for me is soooooo dry.

Here’s what I’ve learned from my mentors to help me come up with ideas for writing.

I lost everythining on my computer!!!

blue screen

Has this happened to you? You’re working the night before on a story for your website or maybe you were surfing the net. You’re not thinking anything and go to bed only to wake up to your computer not working? Here’s my story of what happened last week. I got up on Saturday morning looking forward to write another story, but I need my coffee first. So, I poor myself a nice cup of coffee and when to my office to turn on the computer and…BAM!!! Blue screen of death. My computer died. I tried to reboot it SEVERAL times, but it wouldn’t start up. I unplugged it as that was one of the words I think it said on the screen before it really died, and still no change.  When the computer does come back on the words on the screen say “unmountable boot volume”. What’s going on. I just got the screen replaced the week before because I somehow dropped it and it cracked. By the way, you can easily replace the screen yourself once you buy a new one from a computer store. Save yourself $100 on installation fees.
